Ghana’s Lithium Opportunity — End-to-End Advisory

Ghana’s lithium is not brine — it is hard-rock spodumene pegmatite. The Ewoyaa deposits in Ghana’s Central Region are being developed as a conventional open-pit spodumene operation using dense media separation (DMS) processing technology, targeting annual production of approximately 300,000 tonnes of spodumene concentrate over a 12-year mine life.

Understanding this distinction matters commercially. Operators who arrive expecting South American brine processes face costly reconfiguration. Our team has worked directly with Ghana’s spodumene geology and knows how to structure projects for this specific resource type, this specific regulatory framework, and this specific market moment.

The Lithium Mining Process: Hard-Rock Spodumene (Ghana)

  1. 1. Exploration & Resource Definition

Drill programme design, JORC-compliant resource estimation (MRE), pegmatite targeting methodology, geophysical survey interpretation.

  2. 2. Permitting & Licensing

Minerals Commission licence applications, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), community consultation frameworks under Ghana's Mining and Minerals Act. Navigate the Green Minerals Policy.

  3. 3. Feasibility Studies

Scoping Study through to Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS). Capital cost estimation (CAPEX/OPEX), financial modelling, NPV/IRR analysis.

  4. 4. Open-Pit Mine Design

Pit optimisation (Whittle or equivalent), mine schedule, waste-to-ore ratios, drill-and-blast design, fleet selection (100–200t excavators, 90–150t haul trucks).

  5. 5. DMS Processing Plant Design

Dense media separation (DMS) circuit design and optimisation. Crushing and screening configuration. Spodumene concentrate product specifications for battery-grade offtake.

  6. 6. Offtake & Commercial Structuring

Connecting clients to downstream buyers in Asia, Europe, and North America. Offtake term sheet negotiation. Lithium carbonate vs hydroxide end-product strategy.

  7. 7. ESG & Community Investment

Ghana Green Minerals Policy compliance. Community Development Agreements (CDAs). Local procurement plans. Investor-grade ESG reporting (GRI, ICMM).

Regulatory & Fiscal Landscape

Ghana’s mining fiscal framework has evolved significantly. The Growth and Sustainability Levy (Act 1095) requires mining companies to pay an additional levy on gross production, on top of the standard 13% royalty. This levy was increased in the 2025 budget and its sunset extended to 2028. Our financial modelling explicitly captures this and all other current levies — ensuring your investment case reflects the actual 2025/2026 fiscal regime, not an outdated one.
